International Collaboration Fund 2025
Funded projectAI-Guided Micro-Swarm for Cardiovascular Interventions
FUNDING TARGET
Collaborators will work towards building the fundamental science and methods needed for AI-guided cardiovascular micro-interventions before later translation, targeting preparation for the ERC 2027 Consolidator Grant and scoping of Horizon HLTH-2027-03-TOOL-04 (Virtual Human Twins) focused on AI-guided cardiovascular microbots.
Collaborators will establish a patient-specific imaging-to-biophysics-to-decision pipeline for AI-guided cardiovascular micro-interventions. They will: fuse multimodal imaging—digital subtraction angiography (DSA), CT angiography (CTA), intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), and optical coherence tomography (OCT)—to build robust, uncertainty-aware generative maps of vessels and thrombi; estimate personalised haemodynamics and vessel-wall properties from those images; run therapy-in-the-loop simulations to plan microbot navigation, stenting, or clot removal; enforce safety-gated, explainable decision policies; and validate on phantoms/benchtop rigs and retrospective clinical data.
The award will support two short visits between Scotland and EU partners with goals to (1) refine the research question; (2) align clinical needs and datasets; (3) agree data sharing, ethics and IP; (4) build a small benchtop/phantom demonstration; (5) run quick reviews with clinical and industry advisors; and (6) assemble a pre-submission pack (B1 synopsis, B2 outline, figures, risks, host letters, timetable)
