International Collaboration Fund 2025
Funded projectHydrodynamic Energy Pollution
FUNDING TARGET
Ship-generated turbulence is an unquantified form of energy pollution in the marine environment. This turbulent wake injects kinetic energy into the water, alters the transport of emissions and discharges from ships, and may trigger methane releases in shallow areas.
The ICF funding will establish a collaboration between collaborators through a bilateral exchange. Workshops will co-design a novel research methodology to support the drafting of an interdisciplinary ERC Starting Grant proposal. The two teams have complementary expertise in fluid dynamics and ship-induced environmental impacts. Building on initial outline work, the collaboration will establish a new branch of research at the interface of oceanography, environmental impact assessment, and ship hydrodynamics, enabling a competitive Scotland-led ERC Starting Grant submission.
